Obituary: John T. Moore, Former Nissequogue Mayor, Dies At 83

The grandfather of 7 passed away on March 31.

NISSEQUOGUE, NY - John T. Moore, a former firefighter and mayor of the Village of Nissequogue, died on March 31, 2019. He was 83.

Moore, formerly of Maspeth, was a retired lieutenant for the FDNY Engine 289.

He also served as chief of the Nissequogue Fire Department and commissioner of the Nissequogue Police Department. He was a dedicated volunteer firefighter and a lifetime member of the department.

Moore also served on the Board of Trustees for the Village of Nissequogue and eventually served as Mayor for the village between 1995 and 2001.

"John was a true gentleman whose kindness and compassion will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him," a message on the Village of Nissequogue website read.

He is survived by his children: John (Tatiana), Timothy, Brian, Kathleen (James) Leviness, Terence and Heidi as well as his grandchildren: Alexandra, John, Bianca, Kayla, Audrey, Ryan and Kaitlyn.

In addition, Moore is survived by his siblings Edward, Luke, Miriam Duswalt and Brendan. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

A funeral mass was held on Thursday, April 4 at St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church in Smithtown.
