Obituary: Paige Keely, Of St. James, Dies At 6

Died: January 8, 2018

Visitation: Friday, Jan. 12 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the St James Funeral Home on 829 Middle Country Road in St James.

Service: Saturday, Jan. 13 starting at 12:15 p.m. at Sts. Philip & James RC Church on 454 N. Country Road in St. James.

Obituary: Paige Keely, a first-grader at St. James Elementary School, passed away on Monday, Jan. 8. She was 6.

She died due to complications from an undetected rare condition called brainstem arteriovenous malformation, which can cause bleeding in the brain, her parents, Tom and Gina Keely, told Newsday.

Shortly after, members of the community including the local fire department, the Community Association of Greater St. James and other groups came together to hang pink ribbons along Lake Avenue in Paige's honor, Newsday reports.

"The St. James Volunteer Fire Department joins the St. James Community in mourning the loss of Paige," the department wrote on Facebook. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Keely Family at this most difficult time."

In addition to her parents, she is survived by siblings Maeve and Ronan. She is also survived by grandparents Jill Ponchitera and Clint Carrano as well as grandmother Eileen Keely.

Paige was predeceased by her grandfather, Eugene Keely.
