Overnight Road Closures Coming In Towns Of Smithtown, Islip
The closures on the L.I.E. and Sagtikos interchange are because of a planned two-phase project to improve connectivity to Crooked Hill Road.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Overnight road closures are scheduled to start on Monday in the towns of Smithtown and Islip, the New York State Department of Transportation announced.
A project to improve connectivity to Crooked Hill Road (Suffolk County Route 13) will be done in two phases. Closures are coming to the interchange of the Long Island Expressway and the Sagtikos State Parkway in the two townships.
Beginning on Monday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting, for approximately two weeks:

- One lane on southbound Sagtikos Parkway will be closed between Exit S1E (Long Island Expressway eastbound) and Exit S2 (Pilgrim Psych Center).
Beginning on or around Aug. 28 between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting, for approximately two weeks:
- Sagtikos Parkway southbound will be closed between Exit S1E (Long Island Expressway eastbound) and Exit S2 (Pilgrim Psych Center).
- Ramps to southbound Sagtikos Parkway from both directions of the Long Island Expressway at Exit 53 will be closed.
There will be a signed detour directing drivers towards Wicks Road southbound to Pine Aire Drive westbound for access to southbound Sagtikos Parkway.

Northern State Parkway in Smithtown is also subject to overnight closures starting Monday because of a pavement resurfacing project.
Electronic message signs near the project sites will display updated closure information.

Motorists were urged by the department to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of one's driver's license.
