Here are the top stories in Smithtown today:

  1. Pete the Greek opens in Hauppauge. With a mission to provide quality healthy Greek food accessible to everyone for an affordable price, Chef Pete opened Pete the Greek in Hauppauge this August. Already established in Old Bethpage, this is Pete the Greek’s second location. (LongIsland.com)
  2. Harbor Country Day students become “Citizen Scientists” at Nissequogue River. “By taking part in this fantastic program, our students have a unique opportunity to develop a firsthand appreciation for and knowledge of Long Island’s precious natural resources,” said Harbor Country Day Head of School John Cissel. “This real-world, hands-on learning leads to a much deeper understanding of the subject matter, and it’s an experience the children will remember for years.” (LongIsland.com)
  3. CDC offers new guidance to celebrate holidays safely. Halloween is in about two weeks, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now issuing new guidance on how we can all celebrate the holidays more safely in 2021. The agency recommends wearing masks for all indoor parties, and taking other precautions before big family parties, like testing in advance or avoiding crowded indoor spaces before making the trip. As for trick-or-treating, which health officials frowned on last year, they say it’s pretty safe to do this year - as long as it's outdoors and in small groups. (News12LongIsland)
