Preparing for Snowstorm in Smithtown

A light blanket of snow covered Smithtown Thursday morning, a small indication of what is to come later on tonight.

The National Weather Service predicts that Long Island will see between 8 and 10 inches of snow, starting Thursday night, and has issued a blizzard warning for 6 p.m. in the area. 

Temperatures are expected to drop Thursday night into the mid-teens, and stay below freezing into Sunday.

If residents learned anything from last year's February blizzard, which crippled most of Long Island, it's to be prepared. Here is a list of local stores to find shovels, snow blowers, batteries, generators and other weather-related items.
