SMITHTOWN, NY — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Christine Fitzgerald, who nominated Nancy Vallarella, of Smithtown.

Reason for recognition:
Nancy had the brilliant idea during COVID to create a farm-to-trunk weekly produce box purchase to benefit the Smithtown Children's Foundation as well as helping local farmers & providing healthy food to the community as local farmers markets were canceled.

Nancy gives selflessly of her time & talents as a fundraiser, writer & foodie!
