  1. Have you heard about "The Green Thumb Project," hosted by the Smithtown Library? Participants can now share the vegetables, fruits, and flowers grown and harvested with the seeds provided by the SmithLib! What a fun way to show the community this summer's goodies and win prizes. Sign up and submit a picture by the end of September here.

  2. The Smithtown Historical Society is hosting its Annual Heritage Country Fair this month! This unique event promises to fill the neighborhood with the magic of history, live music, and many other attractions that will undoubtedly enrich the community.   3. The town of Smithtown is hosting a blood drive! The event is scheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the Eugene Cannataro Senior Citizens Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donors will enjoy a free extra-large sandwich or premium salad at McDonald's when purchasing a meal. (Smithtown Gov.)
  4. Suffolk police released a statement announcing that the pedestrian fatal crash in Commack was noncriminal. The accident happened on Harned Road and left a 22-year-old jogger dead and her two brothers injured. The driver stayed at the scene. (LI News12)

  • Sweetbriar Nature Center: "Recently we got a call that a hawk was stuck in a glass atrium at the Smith Haven Mall.
