  1. The Smithtown Board held a meeting on Sept. 5 to discuss some changes to the town code. One of the topics was the possibility of keeping public pools and splash parks open following Labor Day. The decision comes after residents complained about the closure of Callahan Beach. Read details of the meeting here. (TBR News Media)
  2. A public hearing is set for Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Suffolk County Legislature Building in Smithtown to deliberate about the future of LIPA. The event will also be held in different locations throughout Long Island at 10 a.m. (Smithtown. Gov)
  3. There will be 'Base Ball on the Farm' on Sept. 16 at Sherwood Jayne Farm in Setauket. The event is free admission and open for the public of all ages. The New York Mutuals vs. the Atlantics will enter the field at noon. Music. food and other activities will be a plus. (Smithtown Patch)
  4. The Smithtown Library invites cardholders to participate in the Historic Crimes of Long Island Lecture Series on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. For those who enjoy local history, various infamous crimes will be discussed by author Kerriann Flanagan Brosky, who will also present her book, "Historic Crimes of Long Island; Misdeeds from the 1600s to the 1950s."
