  1. Adopt with a Cop Program is an initiative when the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter partners with Suffolk County Police and its large social media following to help find fur-ever homes for rescue animals. The SCPD's social media outreach boasts over 150,000 followers! (Patch)
  2. According to Paws of War, conditions have worsened for animals that were left behind in Ukraine, and they have been left to fend for themselves. Paws of War has been in Ukraine helping abandoned animals since the beginning of the war. But they can't do it alone, your contributions will help dogs and cats that are constantly searching for food, water, and shelter. For those who would like to donate to help Paws of War's efforts in Ukraine, you may do so here. (Smithtown Patch)
  3. On Wednesday morning, Lance Broussand, 37, of Hauppauge, was charged with DWI after he drove a 2020 Hyundai Elantra eastbound in the westbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Highway, police said. Broussand stopped at Speedway on Smithtown Bypass "where he stole 2 cases of beer at 2:30 a.m.," police said. Broussand got to sleep it off overnight at the Fourth Precinct. (Daily Voice)
  4. Just in time for Pride Month, the movie ‘Fire Island' on Netflix depicts the fun, gay happenings in the Pines on Fire Island. It is a sweet, light-hearted flick with stunning male bodies and adult situations. Grab an adult drink with a little umbrella in it and enjoy the show. (NBC New York)
  5. According to lawmakers, environmentalists and community leaders switching the diesel engine trains to electric trains on the Port Jefferson branch would not only "improve service, boost Suffolk County’s economy and reduce the LIRR’s carbon footprint," it would also shorten the ride. Currently from Smithtown to Atlantic Terminal, the ride is two hours. (Subscription: Newsday)
  6. A public health initiative, kicked off by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, elected officials and Catholic Health, is available to protect Suffolk residents from sun exposure and cancers associated with it — free sunscreen dispensers. There are 20 dispensers located at various Suffolk beaches and parks. Look to see where you can find and use them. (Smithtown Matters)
