Here are the top stories in Smithtown today:

  1. Smithtown takes the first step in restoring Caleb Smith House. When Caleb Smith, Yale University graduate and state assembly member, built his house in the mid-1700s, I'm sure he never thought it would last 300 years. Currently the Caleb Smith House is in need of restoration. The Town of Smithtown received a $3,888 Technical Assistance Grant from the Preservation League of New York State that will be used to support a buildings survey of the house. The assessment will allow the town to begin planning for the cost of fixing building deterioration issues. (Smithtown Patch)
  2. Upon his appointment to President of Suffolk County Community College, Dr. Edward Bonahue said, “SUNY Suffolk is an outstanding college that changes students’ lives every day, and I look forward to being part of the Suffolk community.” Suffolk Community is the largest community college in the 64-college State University of New York system with 25,000 students. Let us all welcome Dr. Edward Bonahue! (smithtownmatters.com)
  3. Nesconset Paws of War wants to help National Guard soldier to save Sadie. According to a news release, Spc. Alexander, a National Guard soldier deployed overseas, has reached out to Nesconset nonprofit Paws of War to help him relocate Sadie, a puppy he found, to the United States. Paws of War has helped many service members to get their rescued pets relocated following deployment. If you would like to donate to help Spc. Alexander save Sadie, you may do so here.
