The student honor speaker encouraged his fellow graduates to live in the present, while Principal John Coady is set to retire.

SMITHTOWN, NY — They turned their tassels and became the newest graduates of Smithtown High School West. Held at the school’s football field, 339 graduating seniors celebrated the milestone for themselves and their families, the school district announced.

Principal John Coady, who earlier this year announced his retirement, told the crowd that Smithtown High School West "has become a second home and family."

"The achievements we have witnessed, both academic and personal, are a testament to the incredible synergy and teamwork that exists within our school," Coady said in a news release. "We
have built a community that values kindness, caring and support. It is this foundation that has allowed us to foster a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive."

"No matter where your journey takes you, do not quantify your life based on awards, salary or even Smash Brothers tournament wins, but instead please judge yourself on the amount of times you can step back, live in the present, and say to yourself, I really love what I’m doing in this moment right now. Congratulations to all of you," Stahl said.

After each student received their diplomas, a turn of the tassels and a toss of the caps culminated the 2024 graduation ceremony.
