Smithtown Police Blotter: Man Steals ATV, Breaks Garage Door, Window

ALSO: A woman's credit score was affected by fraud after someone used her Social Security number, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY β€” Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Smithtown area from Sept. 9 through Sept. 15.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Sept. 14: Eugene Santorufo, 19, of Farmingville, stole a 2009 Honda Rancher ATV from USA Auto Find, at 711 Middle Country Road, St. James, around 11:40 p.m. Sept. 13, police said. Santorufo drove the ATV into a window and basement garage door, breaking both, police said. He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary: illegal entry with intent to commit a crime, third-degree criminal mischief, and fourth-degree grand larceny.

  • Sept. 12: Identity theft (second-degree) was reported in Smithtown at 8:30 p.m. A woman's credit score was affected by fraud after someone used her Social Security number to open a Verizon Wireless account, police said.
