Smithtown Police Blotter: Man Steals Credit Card From Locker, Uses It

ALSO: Money stolen from a tip jar; parts stolen from a vehicle at a dealership; and more, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Smithtown area from March 17 through March 23.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • March 22: Devon Barrett, 34, of Central Islip, stole someone's credit card from a gym locker at a gym on Jericho Turnpike in Commack around 8 p.m. Feb. 5, police said. Barrett used the stolen credit card to make a fraudulent purchase at a business at 1944 Deer Park Ave., Deer Park, at 9:50 p.m. Feb. 5, police said. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny: credit card and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
  • March 18: Erick Thompson, 28, of Bay Shore, stole money from a tip jar at a business located at 1966 Veterans Memorial Highway, Islandia, around 9 a.m. March 18, police said. He was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery, police said.
  • March 18: Richard Jones, 56, of New York, stole $1,100 worth of men's clothing from Kohl's in Lake Ronkonkoma at 3:45 p.m. Feb. 11, police said. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny: value of property more than $1,000, police said.

Incidents

  • March 20: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown at 7:15 p.m. Someone left a credit card at the store, police said. The person who found the card tried to use it, but the card was declined, police said.
  • March 20: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) and auto-stripping (second-degree) were reported on Middle Country Road in Saint James at 2:36 p.m. Vehicle parts were stolen from vehicles at North Shore Chevrolet of Smithtown between 6 p.m. March 19 and 1:30 p.m. March 20, police said.
