  1. Smithtown is slowly becoming a "green town." This week, the local government announced the town is among the 385 grant proposals to receive $1 million in grant funds for the Urban Tree Canopy Improvement Project. The incredible benefit will result in more trees being planted in the neighborhood, bringing environmental benefits to the area. (Smithtown Gov.)
  2. The Smithtown Historical Society released dates and times for its Fall Lectures. The first session is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 2. There will be four weeks of local historical discussion.   3. Congratulations to Smithtown High School East seniors, Dylan Shen and Rishabh Dholakia, for their semifinalist nomination in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Their accomplishment came after hours of dedication to studying for the nationwide test. (Smithtown Patch)
  4. Kings Park School District partnered with town officials to host its Touch-A-Truck event at the Walt Whitman Mall on Saturday, Sept. 23. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a vast collection of official vehicles. It's a free admission event. (Smithtown Matters)
