Here are the top five stories in Smithtown today:

  1. Smithtown resident and business owner of the Renaissance Studio on Main Street is retiring after serving the community for over four decades. The building is being cleaned up to open the doors to a new spot in town. Denenberg said that after the passing of his wife Liz in December, he is looking forward to spending most of his time with their children and grandkids. (TBR News Media)
  2. Lessings Caters is no longer serving the Smithtown Landing County Club. The club is now working with another catering company after the contract with Lessings expired. The director of Catering for Lessings, Steve Kirschbaum, said the company reached out to the customers to announce the changes and offered a refund to the ones who wanted to stay with Smithtown Landings and the new company in January.   3. Smithtown students went to the Marine Research Vessel in Shinnecock Bay to do scientific research. Mr. Warner led his class at Smithtown High School West into using a net with which they successfully captured juvenile dogfish, shark, shrimp and crabs. (Smithtown Matters)
  4. Nesconset-based nonprofit, Paws Of War is helping pets in Florida while their humans are trying to "start their lives again" after the damages caused by Hurricane Ian. Food, clean water, blankets, toys and other supplies are being shipped to the most affected families to ensure their pets have all they need. A post has been set up in Fort Myers where residents can get donation supplies. (Smithtown Patch)
  5. Pumpkin season is here, and Americans are expected to spend $804 million on pumpkins in 2022, according to data from finder. cost. This year, the approximate cost of a pumpkin is $5.40 compared to $4.83 in 2021.
