- Community complaints over the closure of Callahan Beach in Fort Salonga led to a Smithtown board meeting in which town officials released updates on the prolonged project. - Community Association of Greater St. James Summer Nights is set for Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Maple Avenue Gazebo. The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. Community members of all ages are invited to enjoy this free admission event. (Smithtown Gov.)
- The Parish of St. Joseph Family Festival is on Aug. 17-20. Festivities will be held at 59 Church St. in Kings Park, featuring food, rides, games, and more! (Smithtown Matters)
- The family of the Gilgo Beach suspect, Rex Heuermann, released personal photos revealing the condition police left their home in Massapequa Park after two weeks of investigation. One of the photos shows a removed bathtub leaving a hole in the wall, and other chaotic scenes of the residence's interior. (Fox News)
