Here are the top stories in Smithtown today:
- Two St. James eateries burglarized. Two counts of burglary (third-degree) were reported on Lake Avenue in St. James. A person entered St. James Pasta and Pork through a window and stole cash from the register. The person then pried open a connecting door to another business, Patio Pizza, and stole cash from the register. (Smithtown Patch)
- Smithtown High School East students recognized with top honors in science writing competition. Eight students placed among the four writing categories: biology (vaccine development), space research, psychology (virtual learning) and environmental science (the effect of plastics). - Suffolk police officials announce the largest hiring of officers in county history. There are 705 law enforcement officers that will be hired in total across different fields over the next 12 months. The Suffolk County police exam is given every four years. All of the new recruits would have had to take the test in 2019 and already be on the list for admittance. (News 12 Bronx)
