UPDATE: Nine-Year-Old Remains Hospitalized After Main Street Accident

After the May 5 accident on Main Street at Lawrence Avenue, Melody Burgos, 9, remains in Stony Brook Medical Center; sister Mabel, 13, was discharged last week.

Representatives from the medical center said Mabel was discharged last week.

According to police, a 2010 Lexus SUV, driven by Maria Kolahifar, 66, of Fort Salonga, hit the Central Islip sisters travelling westbound at 5:30 p.m. on the northern side of East Main Street. Both victims were taken to the Stony Brook University Medical Center. Melody, according to Smithtown Fire Department officials, was airlifted by the Suffolk County Police Department to the hospital while the 13-year-old was transported via ambulance.

Main Street at Lawrence Avenue is an intersection riddled with accidents, from the November 2009 accident where , who was high on heroin at the time of the accident and later sentenced to up to 12 years in jail, to the February accident where was struck and killed when a car hit him after leaving Napper Tandy's.
