Vandals Deface Former T. Carlton's Spalon
The shell of a former Smithtown hair salon and day spa is now permanently marred by bold graffiti.Â
One or more vandals spray painted the former T. Carlton's hair spalon off Nesconset Highway. The Smithtown spalon suddenly closed its doors on Aug. 2 without notifying many of its clients.Â
Smithtown Man Found Growing Marijuana on Sunset Lane
Ernest Spence, 40, of Smithtown, was arrested on Sept. 16 and charged with one felony charge of second-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Police said Spence was found growing marijuana plants at his home on Sunset Lane in Smithtown.Â
New Eastbound Lane Closure Starts Monday on Route 347
Beginning Monday, eastbound drivers on Route 347 in the Smithtown and Hauppauge areas will find a new lane closure on Route 347 between Route 111 and the Route 347/454 split, the New York State Department of Transportation announced Friday.
The closure, which is expected to remain in place until early 2015, will reduce the three lanes to two beginning about half of a mile east of the Route 454/347 split at Brooksite Drive.
Town Approves Further Dredging of Nissequogue RiverÂ
Smithtown Town officials called a special meeting on Thursday morning to approve a new marine permit to allow county contractors to begin dredging the Nissequogue River to keep it open and safe for navigation after recent storms.Â
Suffolk County contractor, Port Jefferson-based Gibson & Cushman, is expected to begin moving equipment into place as early as Saturday, ahead of original plans that called for a Sept. 30 start date.Â
Demolition Day Set for Bavarian Inn
D-Day for the Bavarian Inn's demolition is set.Â
Suffolk Legis. John Kennedy, R-Nesconset, announced that the Bavarian Inn's demolition is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 23. A small ceremony will be held to celebrate this step forward in eliminating the derelict Lake Ronkonkoma restaurant and catering facility.Â
