3-Car Crash In Flanders Leads To DWI Arrest: Police

The 3-car crash took place Wednesday night, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a three-vehicle crash in Flanders Wednesday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place at about 10:44 p.m., at the intersection of Flanders Road and Cypress Avenue.

Responding officers determined that the driver of one of the three vehicles, while in an intoxicated condition, failed to yield to the right-of-way to oncoming traffic while entering the intersection, causing the three-car collision, police said.

As a result of the crash, two of the vehicles were rendered disabled and required towing from the scene; no injuries were reported, police said.

Walmer N. Santos-Alvarez, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as other traffic violations, police said.

Santos-Alvarez was transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
