Contractor Arrested After Taking $15K For Work That Was Never Started On LI: Police

He was arrested Thursday, Southampton Town police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Wading River man was arrested after he reportedly took a check for $15,000 for construction work that was never begun on a new residence, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the individual reported hiring the Singco Construction Company in June 2024 to begin work on a new residence.

A check for $15,000 was provided to the company in July 2024; to date, no architecture plans have been produced and none of the contracted work has been started, police said.

The victim repeatedly tried to reach Singco Construction via email and phone, but never received a response or their money back, police said.

Following an extensive year-long investigation, on Thursday, the Southampton Town Police Department's community response unit and Southampton Town Police Department's detective division arrested Jeffrey Singer, 39, police said.

He was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, police said.

Singer was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing; he was brought to Southampton Town Justice Court for arraignment the same day, police said.
