Crash Stops Hamptons Traffic At Start Of July 4 Weekend: Officials

A serious crash left traffic at a standstill on County Road 39 in Southampton Friday afternoon, officials said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Motorists headed out to the Hamptons to kick off their July 4 weekend were left sitting in standstill traffic Friday afternoon after a serious crash on County Road 39, officials said.

According to Chris Brenner, public information officer for the Southampton Fire Department, the call for the multiple-car crash came in at 3:02 p.m. Traffic was completely stalled, with cars backed up into Southampton Village and wending west on Hill Street, he said.

"You can't get anywhere right now," he said. "The traffic is just horrible."
