Fuel Leak Shuts Down Southampton Village Street

David White's Lane was closed for about an hour.

Rush hour traffic was impeded for about an hour on Wednesday morning while a fuel spill was cleaned up on David White's Lane, a main thoroughfare in Southampton Village.

The Southampton Fire Department was called out to a reported fuel spill at about 7:30 a.m. First responding units arrived to find a Norsic sanitation truck's hydraulic line break sending hydraulic fuel all over the roadway from Mariner Drive to Powell Avenue, according to Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner.

David White's Lane was closed in both directions for approximately one hour with the assistance of fire police.

Speedy dry was used to contain the leak until the Southampton Village Highway Department's sand truck arrived. "Sand was applied and then a street sweeper was used to pick it up," Brenner said.
