Intoxicated Driver Sideswipes Police Car In Hamptons, Flees: PD
The Riverhead man tried to flee the scene in Water Mill, police say.
WATER MILL, NY — An intoxicated Riverhead man was arrested after he sideswiped a police vehicle in Water Mill and tried to flee the scene, authorities said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place on Tuesday at about 6:41 p.m. Kevin Sagastume, 23, was observed driving a motor vehicle while attempting to exit a private dirt roadway onto Montauk Highway, police said. He made a right turn and sideswiped an unoccupied marked Southampton Town Police vehicle, which was on the side of the roadway with emergency lights activated while Southampton Town police were conducting an unrelated investigation, authorities said.
Sagastume fled the scene, heading westbound on County Road 39A; he was subsequently stopped and found to be intoxicated, police said.

Sagastume was arrested and transported to Southampton Town Police Department headquarters for arrest processing; he held to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court at morning arraignment, police said.
Sagastume was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of a crash, a violation, police said.
