Labor Day Weekend Weather On Long Island: See What's Ahead
Thunderstorms will kick off the weekend Friday in certain spots across Long Island, the National Weather Service says.

LONG ISLAND, NY – Mother Nature is sending a burst of cooler weather across Long Island for Labor Day weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Bryan Ramsey, meteorologist with the NWS office in Upton, told Patch that an approaching cold front on Friday will lead to continuing chances for showers and thunderstorms across Long Island until late evening. As of Friday afternoon, there were a "few pop-up" showers along the Long Island Sound areas, with a slightly higher chances of showers on the eastern end of Long Island through Friday night.
A few hours after sunset on Friday night, skies are slated to clear, with a high pressure system bringing dry skies across Long Island throughout the weekend and into the start of next week, he said.

"Temperatures are looking good for people who have plans and activities this weekend," Ramsey said. Highs are expected to reach the mid-70s Saturday, with lows in the 50s Saturday night.
Temperatures in the 70s will continue through Monday, with lows in the 50s; the Pine Barrens area will see slightly cooler temperatures in the evenings, possibly in the upper 40s, Ramsey said.

The weekend promises to be dry and sunny, with wind speeds of about 5 to 10 miles per hour. "Good weather for the holiday weekend," Ramsey said.
