LI Weather: Expected Soggy Skies Should Dry Out By Easter, NWS Says

Although rain is in the forecast for Thursday, by the time Easter rolls around, the weather should be dry and partly cloudy for egg hunts.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Although rain is heading to Long Island Wednesday night and into Thursday, skies are expected to dry out in time for the Easter Bunny's arrival.

According to James Tomasini, meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Upton, rain was moving in from the west to east across Long Island Wednesday, with temperatures in the low 50s. Rain is expected to begin falling around midnight, he said.

Long Islanders should expect a wet day Thursday, with the rain tapering off from west to east Thursday night, Tomasini said. About an 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches is expected in total, with higher amounts across the East End, he said. Temperatures Thursday are expected to be in the upper 40s to low 50s, he said.

Friday, through the first half of Saturday, is forecast to be dry, with some lingering rain possible across the North and South Forks early Friday. Temperatures will remain in the low to mid-50s, Tomasini said.

As for Saturday, the first half of the day is slated to be dry, with a slight chance of rain in the second half, into Saturday night. Temperatures will range from the low to high 50s, he said.

Easter Sunday looks dry ,with highs in the low to upper 50s, Tomasini said, with clouds decreasing throughout the day for a mostly sunny afternoon.
