Man Charged With Driving While Impaired By Drugs After Crash: PD

The crash took place in Sag Harbor on New Year's Eve, police say.

SAG HARBOR, NY — A Southampton man was arrested after he crashed into a street sign and fire hydrant in Sag Harbor while impaired by drugs, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place on New Year's Eve at about 9:50 a.m. on Noyac Road near Sag Harbor Court. Responding officers found a 2019 Kia Sportage had left the roadway, striking the sign and hydrant; upon further investigation, the driver, Peter Ethier, 35, was determined to be driving while ability impaired by drugs, police said.

Ethier was placed under arrest and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, where he was processed, charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, two prior convictions; and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, police said.
