Man Charged With Felony DWI In Riverside: Police

He was arrested Saturday, police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested Saturday and charged with felony driving while intoxicated, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 10:04 p.m., when officials received a call about a person driving erratically on Brown Street in Riverside. Shortly after, a New York State trooper located the vehicle heading northbound on Ludlum Avenue in Riverside and conducted a vehicle and traffic stop, police said.

A Southampton Town police patrol officer observed the stop and upon further investigation, the driver, Diego Armando Castaneda-Gonzalez, 37, was found to be operating while intoxicated by alcohol, police said.

Armando Castaneda-Gonzalez was arrested by Southampton Town P0lice and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for arrest processing; he was charged with one count of DWI, previous conviction, a felony, and one count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, police said. He was held overnight to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.
