Opinion: Joe Biden: The Experts Next President ? Not So Fast

I dedicate this post to all the people who ever did business with a man who withheld the final payment and said, “Sue me,” and watched someone like him become an elected official of a very high office.

Four years ago at about this time many respected pundits proclaimed the 2016 Presidential election would sound like the 1992 Presidential election; Bush versus Clinton. Then down the escalator came one Donald Trump and the late night TV jokes started. I must admit I told my worried wife who happens to be a 5-time winner of Long Island Best Psychic that Mr. Trump could not/ would not really run but loved publicity. She said not only will he run he is going to win. She was very upset and definitely not happy. As the weeks turned into months and after every primary she would look at me in horror and say, “I told you so!” My reply was a laughing, “No way this guy becomes President, the cable networks are just stringing him along because he is box office.” Then came election night. I love the quote I heard at Liar’s Saloon in Montauk, “It wasn’t just the Russians who interfered to elect Trump it was the Devil himself!” My wife was the first to vote for Hillary Clinton at our polling station Election Day. She refused to watch the returns.

So now four years later of the most painful political era of my lifetime, a time that has made Gerald Ford’s Presidency look polished comes the sequel to the 2016 Presidential election; the 2020 Presidential election. In the last four years millions of women have marched in cities, towns and villages to protest both this President and for the enhancement of women’s rights. A tidal wave of enthusiasm brought in a “New Democratic Majority,” in the House of Representatives and now twenty-plus candidates want to set the country back in the right direction by defeating Donald Trump. Yet the experts with those wonderful President Hillary Clinton polling methods say Joe Biden is the best the Democratic Party can do to defeat Trump and win back the Presidency.

Joe Biden is no stranger to the “Southampton Democratic” stalwarts , who all have a photo of them and V.P. Joe Biden. I never understood why President Barack Obama never set foot in the Hamptons, yet Joe summered here? Hillary factor ? Only the Obama’s know for sure. At social functions I hear many Joe Biden stories I even have one of my own, Joe is quite a regular guy.

Is he the next President? After what I have seen in the last four years I know now anything is possible yet somehow something is telling me maybe not.

I attended the New York City women’s march and I don’t recall a single Joe Biden for President banner amongst the many creatively funny, poignant, and serious ones I observed over many hours. Is he the best guy to represent all those women who helped win back the House/Congress?

Experts, pollsters, and those who proclaim to be in the know say yes! I say this, I have never been thinking I wish Joe Biden was President,that he’s the one great guy in American politics to lead this nation out of the dark forests.

So here is my hunch. Someone will stand out in the upcoming debates. Someone will be elevated by the crazy process. Someone will grow into our next President before our eyes. However if this is not allowed to happen. If the process is hijacked by professional party experts looking to win by selecting someone they know is not best suited to run our country but is best to beat Trump then once again the Russians, the devil and others may redo the impossible.
