Good morning, on this somber Wednesday, the 12th anniversary of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.Â
— To honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, the Southampton High School Student Council, STA and Southampton Fire Department will host the second annual 9/11 memorial lap during halftime of the varsity field hockey game on Wednesday. The game starts at 6 p.m., and halftime will be roughly at 6:45 p.m.
The community is invited to wear red, white or blue in honor of 9/11.
— You don't have to live in Montauk to take part in the Montauk SurfMasters Fall Classic, but the deadline is fast approaching. No applications will be accepted after Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. The 10-week striped bass tournament, which runs from Sept. 14 at 12:01 a.m. through Dec. 1 at 10 a.m., has five divisions: adult wader, wetsuit, women, youth (12-17 years old) and kids (7-11 years old). If you would like to pick up an application they are available at Paulie's Tackle and Gaviolas or see one of the committee members.
— Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota held off Republican primary challenger Raymond Perini with about 56 percent of the vote on Tuesday, setting up the 12-year district attorney to run unopposed for a fourth term in November. Check back later for primary results in Southampton, where there were write-ins, so the results are a little slower to come in.
— How crazy was that news yesterday that The Village of Sag Harbor’s website was briefly taken over by "Web Soldiers Team from the Islamic Electronic Army"? Apparently, it happens more often than we realize.Â
— It's hard to believe, but it's already time to think about apple picking. Apples are starting to ripen, so if you're looking for a place to pick your own, we gathered a list of local places.Â
