The milestone places Coach Lamison among an elite group of high school basketball coaches, making him just the 40th in New York State to achieve the hono, and only one of six active coaches in the state to do so, Welker noted.
Lamison’s coaching career, which began in 1991, has been marked by 508 wins, 210 losses, and an impressive list of accomplishments, including 14 league titles, 12 Suffolk County Class titles, 8 Long Island titles, 3 New Yok State Final Four appearances and 1 New York State Championship.
Lamison has also been a "dedicated member of the Southampton community, serving 39 years as a Southampton Village police officer. He is the commanding officer of criminal investigations and juvenile services, currently holding the title of detective sergeant," Welker said.
In addition to Coach Lamison’s success, three of his players reached significant individual milestones. On January 27, Alex Franklin scored his 1,000th career point. That same day, Tyson "Splash" Reddick set a new school record, hitting 11 three pointers in a single game and finishing with a career-high 37 points. Naevon Williams was also honored for reaching the 1,000-point milestone in his junior season.
The Southampton Varsity Men’s Basketball Team has continued its tradition of excellence this season with an outstanding 19 to 1 record. Coach Lamison expressed pride and gratitude to his players for their continued work, support, and commitment to the team.
Legislator Welker read a statement from Southampton High School Athletic Director Darren Phillips, who was unable to attend: "During my 24 years at Southampton High School as director of athletics, I have been blessed to have Coach Lamison leading the men’s varsity basketball program. Herm is not just a great coach, he is a great role model for his team, teaching them more than just how to succeed in the game of basketball, but teaching them how to succeed in life."
Welker added: "We congratulate Coach Lamison and his team and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming playoffs."
