  1. The Hamptons were among the Long Island areas to be under a tornado warning Saturday. Damage was widespread. (News 12)
  2. News 12 reminds us that it's the last day to take advantage of Long Island Restaurant Week. Union Sushi & Steak in Southampton has a marinated skirt steak inside a sushi roll, called the Union Roll, that also has lobster and avocado inside and a famous bao bun with barbecue cut pork loin and crispy onions.   3. Ever wonder what the historic military vehicles you see around the Hamptons are? East Hampton VFW Post 550, Dayton-Soehlke-Ohlhorst Veterans Memorial VFW Post 5350 in Westhampton Beach and Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach all have pieces of history you can view and read about. (Dan's Papers)
  4. The Southampton Town Police Department will hold a civilian academy program beginning Jan. 26. The academy will run for 14 weeks, one night per week, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Southampton Town Police Headquarters in Hampton Bays. Classes will cover: laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force, driving while intoxicated, narcotics enforcement, domestic violence, investigations and gangs. Students have the option of riding along with police officers for a tour of duty and attending a demonstration at the police firearms range and emergency vehicle operations course. (RiverheadLOCAL)
  5. Lisa Finn tells us that a clothing drive aims to help inmates transition to lives after incarceration with needed items. Suffolk Legislator Bridget Fleming is organizing the effort to help Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon's transition and re-entry team. (Patch)
