Southampton NY, The Tuckahoe Common School District was excited to host a special visit from our local heroes, the Southampton Fire Department. The firefighters brought their Engines, Ladder Truck, and Stump Jumper! The students saw these vehicles in action and learned how they are used during emergencies.
The highlight of the visit was the simulated smokehouse. In this safe, controlled environment, fog is created to mimic the conditions of a real fire. Our students crawled through the smokehouse under the watchful eyes of the firefighters. This hands-on experience will teach them what to do if they ever find themselves in a smoke-filled room.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about fire safety and the important role that firefighters play in our community," said Superintendent Leonard Skuggevik.
