Here are the top five stories in Sunset Park today:
- Alexa Avilés grew up in East New York before moving to Sunset Park. Her biggest priority this year is passing legislation to regulate and limit last-mile warehouses in neighborhoods like Sunset Park, and she's looking forward to working with the women members of the council. Meet all new members of the council here. (City & State)
- The State Assembly almost unanimously voted down the newly proposed redistricting maps for Congress and the state legislature, meaning they will need to draft their own ones instead. That makes it more likely that Sunset Park will remain under Nydia Velazquez rather than Jerry Nadler, as was proposed. (Twitter)
- Brooklynites are raising money to fight cancer, by participating in an annual fundraiser called the "Relay For Life," which asks participants to film themselves walking around outside. (Brooklyn Paper)
