Here are the top three stories today in Sunset Park:

  1. A man stole $5,000 from the small business Zhenda Trading 56th street and Ninth Avenue in Sunset Park last Thursday night. A store employee who tried following him was subsequently knocked to the ground and suffered minor injuries. Video footage was released showing the incident. (WPIX 11 New York)
  2. The Brooklyn Public Library awarded nearly $90,000 to branches across the borough interested in implementing creative projects. At the Sunset Park library the "Sunset Spark" program will let students dive deep into science and technology, and look back in time at past scientific breakthroughs. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  3. COVID is still raging across the borough. 280,000 Brooklynites got tested last week (Dec. 12 to Dec. 18). Brooklyn has the second-highest rate of transmission in the borough, at 616 new cases per 100,000 residents. In response, the city announced on Tuesday that it is offering a $100 incentive to get a booster shot through December 31st. (Brooklyn Paper)
