Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:
- The city's Department of City Planning released a once-in-a-decade waterfront resiliency and "environmental justice" plan this week. The plan mentions partnerships with organizations like Sunset Park's UPROSE. It also mentions the neighborhood as an example of where "The mix and diversification of these workforces and their need for offices and services have reactivated adjacent waterfronts and sparked new opportunities for waterfront access." (City Limits)
- A growing number of born-and-raised New Yorkers are growing tired of young social media influencers that flaunt a privileged and romanticized version of the city on platforms like TikTok. In response, they're making their own videos showing daily life for everyday New Yorkers. (Gothamist)
- Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill into law yesterday that would stop dangerous overweight trucks from driving on sections of the BQE. It's unclear whether the legislation will affect Sunset Park directly, but it could perhaps mean fewer trucks there as well — or more of them driving along 3rd and 4th avenues. (Brooklyn Paper)

Today in Sunset Park:
- There's no events scheduled for today (or at least none that I could find), most likely due to the combination of the holidays and COVID cases souring. Here's a guide from Time Out NY on the best ways to spend Christmas Eve in the city. (Time Out NY)
From my notebook:
- Fifth Avenue Committee: "Getting tested is the fastest way to recover. Take a COVID test today! Visit NYC.Gov/COVIDTest or text "COVID TEST" to 855-48 to find a test site near you." (Facebook)
- Season's greetings from UPROSE. If you're feeling in a giving mood it is asking for donations. (Twitter)
- The Chinese-American Planning Council's Geriatric Mental Health Program in Sunset Park held a holiday party for seniors, attended by Carlos Menchaca. (Twitter)
- Here's a reminder that, through the end of the year, the city will pay you $100 to get a COVID vaccine booster. (Twitter)
