Driver Employed By Facility For Disabled On LI Accused Of Raping Woman Multiple Times: Police

A van driver for the AHRC is accused of taking a woman to a parking lot and sexually abusing her, police say.

JERICHO, NY — A Roosevelt man was arrested after multiple sexual encounters with a woman living at a facility for the disabled on Long Island, police said.

According to Nassau County police, the special victims squad reported the arrest, after the multiple sexual encounters occurred between March of 2022 through September 12 of this year in Jericho.

According to detectives, Steven Harrison, 62, was a van driver employed by the Association for the Help of Retarded Children, or AHRC.

AHRC could not immediately be reached for comment.

Beginning in March, 2022, while driving a woman home to the facility as part of his route, Harrison stopped at the parking lot of a Home Depot on Jericho Turnpike and have inappropriate sexual contact with the woman, who was 24 at the time, police said.

On September 18, the woman, now 27, informed a family member of the encounters and they reported the incidents to police, authorities said.

After conducting a thorough investigation, Harrison was placed under arrest without incident Tuesday at the AHRC on Wheatley Road in Brookville, police said.

Harrison was with charged with third-degree rape; first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent physically disabled person; and second-degree sexual abuse, police said.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
