Gas Main Leak Impacts 2 Westbury Customers: National Grid

The leak also caused the closure of Jericho Turnpike between Westbury Lane and Sudbury Lane, police said.

WESTBURY, NY — A gas main leak closed a portion of Jericho Turnpike in Westbury. All lanes were closed on Thursday afternoon eastbound between Westbury Lane and Sudbury Lane, Nassau police said.

A spokesperson for National Grid tells Patch that a third party damaged the main while installing a catch basin. They said there were no injuries.

Two customers were affected on Sudbury Lane and it was made safe at 1:12 p.m. The gas company said they were relighting customers.

National Grid said there are ways to check for gas emergencies, including a smell of sulfur or rotten eggs, an abnormal pressure or no gas coming from all appliances and gas to an appliance or heating unit stays and can't be shut off.
