My 2023 Jalsa Experience
Let's learn about what Jalsa means in the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and how this experience shapes my Ahmadi identity.
Every year, Ahmadi Muslims from around the world attend a national religious conference in their respective country called Jalsa. The concept of Jalsa was emphasized by the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. He guided Ahmadi Muslims to spend these three days at this religious convention for increasing their love towards God and Islamic dedication. During Jalsa, speeches and congregational Prayers are arranged for members to spend time in the remembrance of God and increase knowledge that can help them reflect on their own spiritual progress.
Currently, various countries including the USA hold Jalsa or a national religious conference. The first USA Jalsa started around 1948, where most of the attendees were early pioneers of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. This year marked the 73rd Jalsa, and was held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania from July 14 to July 16. Fortunately, several volunteers including myself had the sincere pleasure to serve the guests of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Specifically, I cleaned the tables after meals and showed the interactive map of the locations of the local chapters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community inthe USA to members touring around the exhibition. Additionally, I spent time with my relatives and friends who I don’t see as often. Overall, this Jalsa experience not only uplifted my religious devotion but also connected me with my fellow sisters in faith.
