Propel NY Energy Launches Survey to Gather Feedback from Local Businesses
Input Will Help Guide Construction Planning for Needed Electric Transmission Project
The Propel NY Energy project team, a collaboration between the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York Transco, has launched a voluntary survey for businesses located along or near the proposed underground transmission route.
The survey is designed to gather information and feedback about local business operations that can aid in construction planning and sequencing and maximize efficiencies. The survey – geared toward businesses of all sizes and types – will collect details such as business hours, location specifications, parking availability, number of employees, seasonal changes in operations, and other considerations.
“From the start, our approach has been to engage early, communicate often, and ensure our process is inclusive, bringing in as many voices as possible from the local communities,” said Shannon Baxevanis, Director of Communications & Public Affairs at New York Transco. “This survey will give area businesses a direct way to share their operational needs with us, so we can plan construction in a way that supports their continued success while we deliver critical infrastructure that benefits all New Yorkers.”

“Businesses operating along the Propel NY Energy planned transmission line are encouraged to share information so that we can best move ahead together,” said Susan Craig, Director, Communications and External Affairs, New York Power Authority. “This line will have benefits for all New Yorkers businesses, ensuring they have access to reliable power. This business survey information will help us understand business needs so that the project team can factor this information into planning and execution efforts.”
The survey will be rolled out gradually, starting with Nassau County and New Rochelle, two areas where the preferred routing has been identified. As the project continues its engineering and design to optimize or determine preferred routing, the survey will be made available to businesses along other parts of the route.

Businesses along the route will receive a postcard mailer inviting them to complete the survey. To further maximize participation, Propel NY Energy is partnering with local chambers of commerce to help disseminate the survey. "The businesses that make up Westchester County are vital to our region’s vibrancy and success,” said John Ravitz, Executive Vice President, Business Council of Westchester. “We appreciate the Propel NY Energy team for their willingness to listen to our needs, incorporate our feedback, and maintain open communication as they move forward with their work in our community."
“Happy to see the Propel NY Energy team reach out to local businesses to minimize disruption for small businesses in our downtowns and local communities,” said Eric Alexander, Director of Vision Long Island, Founder of LI Main Street Alliance. “The Propel NY project is an important one for our energy infrastructure needs but making sure local businesses are impacted as little as possible is also a priority.”
