Syosset Memorial Day Parade Returns This Year
In honor of longtime VFW member Gus Scutari, this year's parade will have no grand marshal.
SYOSSET, NY — After being put off for years, Syosset's Memorial Day Parade is returning this weekend.
Residents can come out and support the parade, which will feature local veterans groups, marching bands, Boy and Girl Scouts, fire departments and more.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Monday at Dawes Avenue and Jackson Avenue. Marchers will head north on Jackson Avenue to the north side of the LIRR tracks, then continue north on Cold Spring Road. The parade will then turn west on Whitney Avenue and head to Queens Street, then south on Queen Street to Underhill Boulevard, then east on Underhill Boulevard. The parade will end at Memorial park at the corner of Underhill Avenue and Jackson Avenue, where there will be a ceremony.

After the ceremony, the Gus Scutari VFW Post #6394, located at 20 Queens St., will host participants and community members for hot dogs and conversation.
This year's parade will not have a grand marshal. For many years, Gus Scutari, the namesake of the VFW post, was the grand marshal of the parade. Scutari died in April at the age of 99. In honor of him, there will be no grand marshal at this year's parade.
