Syosset Science Olympiad Team Is Best In State
The team scored the highest of all teams from New York in a competition earlier this month.

SYOSSET, NY — The Syosset High School Science Olympiad team ranked second overall in the invitational competition at Cornell University on Nov. 19, making them the highest-scoring team from New York.
Syosset students competed against 34 teams from across the nation in 23 different events. These events encompassed various fields of science, including chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering. The team of 15, led by Coach Mildred Castañeda, earned a total 32 medals across 15 events.
Prior to the competition, team members went through hours of preparation, passing several rounds of testing, and spending time after school practicing lab experiments and building devices.

Syosset High School’s Science Olympiad team plans on attending several competitions throughout the remainder of the school year. Its next in-person competition will be Dec. 8-11 at Buffalo State University.
The Science Olympiad team is: Aarya Patel, Alex Chen, Andy Chen, Anthony Rodriguez, Blesson Ren, Brenton Lee, Darius Fan, Ishan Patel, Jasmine Liu, Jesse Lebolt, Marcus Hoshino, Samuel Xiao, Simeon Hur, Tina Chen and Winston Zhou.
