Syosset-Woodbury Memorial Day Observance: What To Know

The 80th annual Syosset-Woodbury Memorial Day Observance will look a little different this year.

SYOSSET, NY — The 80th annual Syosset-Woodbury Memorial Day Observance is planned Monday, but will look a little different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. organizers said a virtual community gathering will be held this year in honor of Syosset and Woodbury's fallen service members.

The event will feature music performances, guest speakers, and a video tribute to local military members who died in World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War.

The virtual program will last about 20 minutes beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. It will be available for viewing all day Monday.

The annual service, a joint effort of the Syosset Veterans of Foreign Wars, Syosset American Legion, and local historian Tom Montalbano, will be dedicated to Gus Scutari, who recently died at 99. Scutari was the long-time grand marshal of the parade.
