The 2024 event launched a new funding initiative: an EMS Welcome Lounge that will provide a sanctuary and space for EMS providers to take a well-deserved break.

Phelps Hospital says that its Emergency Department treats over 28,500 patients annually. Around 5,000 of these patients arrive at Phelps thanks to EMS providers: the paramedics and EMTs who provide transport and treatment to patients in the community.

Phelps explained that the work of their EMS colleagues is defined by always being in transit. They safely transport a patient to Phelps, complete the required hand-off and documentation that supports patient safety and then head to their next call. There is often no space for them to take a breather or enjoy a cup of coffee.

Therefore, Phelps Hospital says that it aims to build a welcome lounge in the Emergency Department for their EMS colleagues. This lounge will offer them refreshments, an area to complete the required documentation and space to take a break. It will be conveniently located right next to the ambulance entrance.
