Family Feuds, Assault Arrest

In Sleepy Hollow:

A caller on Nov. 30 at 1:18 p.m. reported to police a father and son dispute in front of Lawrence Avenue. Officers on the scene confirmed that some type of altercation had taken place before their arrival. The son had left the scene and the father refused to cooperate with police and did not want to press charges.

Police arrested on Dec. 3 at 5:10 p.m., a female 18-year-old Sleepy Hollow resident for a domestic dispute that apparently took place on Dec. 1 around 1 a.m. The young woman was charged with third degree assault. Chief Gregory Camp said this was a family fight and he could provide no further information on the incident.

Her charge was a misdemeanor assault, which by law, said Camp, comes for causing an alleged impaired physical condition or substantial pain. On the other hand, harassment, by definition, he said could mean someone got punched but didn’t suffer great pain or impairment. “The law leaves a grey area,” he said.

On Dec. 5 at 6:29 p.m., a caller on College Avenue said he was trying to pick up his son as per the family court order, but his ex-wife allegedly would not allow him to. Officers sent and reported a verbal dispute between ex-husband and wife regarding child custody issues. The case was already being handled through the family court and child protective services; no crime had apparently been committed.

However, police issued the man a summons for driving without a license.

In Tarrytown:

On Nov. 23 at 9:55 p.m., a caller reported an ongoing argument in the Tallyrand Complex on Crescent Drive. The caller reported people and had been arguing on the sidewalk and in an apartment. Officers on the scene reported a loud verbal dispute in progress. The homeowner was apparently involved in an argument with her brother over money and family inheritance issues. His son, who had reportedly been staying at the home after being displaced by Hurricane Sandy, left the home for the night. The family member requested no further police action and refused to submit a written statement portion of domestic incident report.

On Dec. 4 at 6:06 p.m., a father on Union Avenue reported that his son knocked on his door in violation of an active order of protection. The father reported that his son left the area toward Neperan Road; police were unable to locate the son. The father went to headquarters to complete a case and police filed a paperwork-only arrest.
