Mayor Fixell Will Push for Bus on TZ Bridge
Tarrytown Mayor Drew Fixell is among the 28 appointed to the new Tappan Zee Bridge's Mass Transit Task Force.

Among the 28 member Mass Transit Task Force appointed to examine transit options for the new Tappan Zee Bridge is Tarrytown Mayor Drew Fixell.
Fixell, with many regional politicians, has been clearly planted on the side of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as the most viable, cheapest option for mass transit on the bridge when grander options are next to impossible.
Now that we’ve seen three proposed versions of a new bridge – all only mass-transit “ready” (one with added costs) – I thought I’d check in with him on what input he might offer this Task Force and what he thought membership in it might entail.

Fixell said:
- “At this point, we've been provided with no information as to how the task force/committee will operate, though one thing I am virtually certain of is that the members will not be 'voting' in any way for or against the proposed designs.”
- “As far as my thoughts on mass transit modes, at this point I continue to believe that BRT makes the most sense, and should be pursued. Though it's impossible to know with any certainty what my positions will be with regard to any specific proposals, my general approach will be to support solutions that will effectively and efficiently ease auto traffic in the corridor while at the same time ensuring that whatever is done will not negatively affect Tarrytown residents and will hopefully provide some real benefits.”
The Mass Transit Task Force will have one year to complete its work and make recommendations. However, Fixell’s term is up in March and he hasn’t announced whether he will run again or not. On that note, he simply said, "no decision at this time."
