Obituary: Long-Time Former Greenburgh Police Chief Singer Dies
Former Police Chief Donald Singer Sr. died Wednesday at the age of 85 of natural causes.
GREENBURGH, NY — The town of Greenburgh mourning and remembering a long-time police chief who helped to build the modern Greenburgh Police Department.
Former Police Chief Donald Singer Sr. died Wednesday at the age of 85.
Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said Singer served 25 years as chief, for a total of 32 years with the department.

“Police Chief Singer helped Greenburgh establish a modern police force,” he said. “He invested in technology and up-to-date equipment — helping our town have a low crime rate.”
Feiner said Singer loved the police department and also was proud of his service in the military.

“His service to our town, the state and nation will always be appreciated,” he said.
Visitation for Singer is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Curry & Giordano Funeral Home, 313 N. James St. in Peekskill. Entombment will be private.
According to his obituary, Singer was born in Manhattan and grew up primarily in the Bronx.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1955 and was assigned to a B-47 bomber base in Morocco.
In 1960, Singer became an officer with the Greenburgh Police Department, rising through the ranks to become chief of police in 1975. He retired in 1992.
Singer is survived by his wife Anne, three sons and seven grandchildren. He lived in Cortlandt Manor for more than 60 years.
