Obituary: Tarrytown Police Det. Jose Ojito, 55
Ojito was a life active member of Union Hose Company No. 2 of the North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Fire Department.
TARRYTOWN, NY — The Tarrytown Police Department and the community are mourning the death of a police detective.
Police Detective Jose Ojito died suddenly Sunday, according to a post by the department on Facebook. He was 55.
Born and raised in the Tarrytowns, Ojito began his career in 1990 with the North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Police Department as a patrolman.

In 1998, he transferred to the Tarrytown police, where he was promoted in 2019 to detective.
Besides being in law enforcement, Ojito was a life active member of Union Hose Company No. 2 of the North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Fire Department, joining in 1984, according to his obituary.

He is survived by his wife Maria, daughters Jennifer, Melissa and Lauren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Coffey Funeral Home, 91 North Broadway in Tarrytown. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Transfiguration, 268 S. Broadway in Tarrytown. Interment will follow at noon at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Westchester B.L.U.E. Foundation Inc. would be appreciated.
