Tarrytown DPW, Irvington police and Tarrytown police helped to save the newborn stuck neck-deep underground.

TARRYTOWN, NY — A baby deer picked the right Hudson River town to find itself in peril and in need of a helping hand.
The village of Tarrytown relayed the story of how "public service professionals go well beyond the expectations of their job title."

On May 24, around 12:30 p.m., after heavy rains, the Department of Public Works received reports of a newborn fawn caught in a sinkhole under a stone wall on the Mercy College property on E. Sunnyside Lane.

DPW employees Max Lopez, Filip Michalski and Robert McCarthy worked with police officers from Irvington and Tarrytown to enlarge the hole and free the newborn stuck neck-deep underground. They were assisted by Greenburgh Animal Control.
Officials say the fawn was shaken, but survived the ordeal.
