Tappan Zee Miracle: Jumper Survives Fall From Cuomo Bridge
A precisely coordinated response by emergency responders is being credited with saving the life of someone who had given up all hope.
TARRYTOWN, NY — Firefighters relied on all of their training this weekend and managed to save the life of someone who appeared determined not to be saved, after jumping from the mid-span of the Cuomo Bridge.
"This was a coordinated effort by several Rockland County and Westchester units. Special thanks to Piermont FD, NYSP, Central Nyack FD, and other responding Marine Units," Tarrytown Fire Department officials said in a statement on social media describing the harrowing ordeal. "A job well done by all."
At around 2:30 p.m on Sunday, the Tarrytown Fire Department was dispatched to the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, high above the Tappan Zee stretch of the Hudson River, on a report of a jumper already in the water.

Within minutes, a crew from the department's Marine 5 rescue boat was responding with rescue swimmers on board.
The emergency triggered a massive response with dozens of divers and rescue swimmers launched on rescue boats from both sides of the Hudson River.

"Car 2462 (Chief Derivan) and the Marine 5 crew quickly located the victim in the water and acted swiftly to load them into the boat and bring them back to dockside to be cared for by EMS," according to the department. "The incident is under investigation by the NYSP and the TFD will not be available for further comment."
The victim was taken by Tarrytown EMS to Westchester Medical Center.
